Everything you need for your first class, in one order.

Walking into a boxing gym for the first time is hard enough without standing in a shop trying to work out what ounce glove you need, how long hand wraps are supposed to be, or whether a mouth guard is optional. (It isn't.)

This is the kit we'd hand a beginner. Five things, nothing you don't need, no decisions to make.

What's in the kit

  • Fight Lab Training & Sparring Gloves — synthetic leather, built for bag work, pads and sparring. Choose 16oz or 10oz above.
  • Fight Lab Hand Wraps, 450cm — wrist and knuckle support. Wear these under the gloves, every session, from day one.
  • "Bite Lab" Mouth Guard — non-negotiable the moment anyone throws anything at you. Most gyms won't let you spar without one.
  • Steel Speed Skipping Rope — coated steel cable, bearing handles, adjustable length, plus a spare silicone rope and a carry case. Footwork and conditioning: nearly every session you attend will start with a rope.
  • "Wash Your Wraps" Mesh Laundry Bag — the thing nobody tells you about until week two. Wraps hold sweat. Wash them after every session, in this, and they last.

Why the steel rope and not the cheap one

We've put our better rope in the kit deliberately. Entry-level ropes use a fixed grommet, so the rope drags and binds and you end up blaming your footwork for the rope's problem. Bearing handles spin freely, which is the difference between learning a rhythm and fighting the equipment. It's the rope most people buy second anyway — so we've skipped a step.

Not sure which gloves?

Take the 16oz if you're not certain. More padding, more protection for your hands and your training partners, and the size most gyms want for sparring. The 10oz is lighter and better suited to bag work, drills and competition once you know what you're doing.

Why buy it as a kit

The five items come to $123.92 bought separately. As a kit it's $109.99 — you save $13.93, and it clears our free shipping threshold, so it arrives at no extra cost anywhere in Canada or the US. Mostly though, it's one decision instead of five, and none of the five is the one you want to get wrong in your first week.

New to combat sports later in life? The research on starting after 60 is more encouraging than most people expect.

Combat sports carry an inherent risk of injury. Protective equipment reduces that risk, it does not remove it. Train under qualified supervision, and speak to your doctor before starting if you're returning to training after a break or managing a health condition.
